STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The teen-ager wielded a bat in the remorseless beating that put a New Dorp plumber in a coma for more than a month, police said, but he was reduced yesterday to trying to hide under his girlfriend's bed.
William (Billy) LaBarbera, 18, of Starlight Road in Howell, N.J., was arrested yesterday morning at the girl's Annadale home and charged with bashing, kicking and stomping John Candela even after he lapsed into unconsciousness.
